Jonah is originally from Lancaster, SC. He now resides in Simpsonville, SC with his wife, Claire, their daughter Callie, and golden retriever, Zuno. After graduating from North Greenville with a BA in broadcast media, Jonah worked in the world of media, but he quickly found that it wasn't a fit for him. It wasn't until he found Amazing Athletes, our sister program, that he was able to find a job that fulfilled his true passions, children and sports. Jonah worked with Amazing Athletes for several years before becoming the owner in April of 2023. In January of 2024, Jonah expanded to Super Soccer Stars, finding joy in bringing more opportunities to kids in Upstate, SC. Jonah has coached 4 seasons of Super Soccer Stars and loves every minute!
Claire grew up in Lugoff, SC, dabbling in every sport she could before eventually settling on Volleyball. She attended college Anderson University in the Upstate of SC. She earned her BS in Physical Education and began living out her dream of being a PE Teacher. She further her education by earning her M.Ed in Nutrition Education from Framingham State University. After 6 years teaching public school, she found that she could extend her reach to children across the upstate through different avenues. In 2024, she became the Director of Coaching for Amazing Athletes and Soccer Stars of the Upstate and has since moved into an Operations Director role, managing a little bit of everything! She has coached one season of Soccer Stars!
Born in Greenville and raised in Myrtle Beach, Gabe now lives in Simpsonville with his wife of 11 years, Sara, their three boys, Ollie, Finn, and Rivers, and their dog, Teddy. Gabe has spent the last six years coaching and managing a children's soccer franchise, combining his love for the sport with his passion for working with kids. As Regional Manager for Soccer Stars, he’s dedicated to helping young players build confidence, develop skills, and, most importantly, have fun on the field! Outside of soccer, Gabe stays busy running a graphic design business, a YouTube channel, playing guitar, skateboarding, and collecting comic books. Whether on the field or off, he brings creativity, energy, and a love for what he does to all he takes on.
Coach R is a proud Greenville native who has always had a big love for sports, with soccer holding a special place in her heart. Since she started playing at a young age, her passion for wellness has grown immensely. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science in 2020 from South Carolina. Since then, Coach R has had the opportunity to work with kids all over the upstate. She has been involved in everything from soccer training to creating the Healthy Hustle program at the Children's Museum of the Upstate. She joined Soccer Stars early in 2024 as a way to get back to working with kids, using soccer to share her love of health and wellness! She also coaches soccer at CESA!
Tarah is a Greenville native. She is married to her husband, Bryan, and they have three lovely children. Tarah attended Lander University on a soccer scholarship where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in exercise science. After graduating from college, Tarah was an Exercise Physiologist Manager conducting submaximal stress tests on firefighters. For ten plus years, she worked in pharmaceuticals specializing in respiratory. Tarah has been a soccer coach for eight years and it is her true passion. She has always enjoyed playing sports and genuinely loves working with children. She coaches Soccer Stars in our preschools year round, and has coached one season of our community programs.
Coach Whinny comes all the way from Dominican Republic. She lived in 6 states before landing in SC to be a coach. She has a love for wellness and working with people of all ages. When Whinny isn’t coaching kids, she is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and dance teacher. She also enjoys painting art to make people happy, learning about all the ways to improve overall health, and gardening to grow healthy fruits and veggies. She is a big believer in the benefits and endless possibilities of a healthy life. “Coaching Soccer Stars is an absolute dream. I just love coaching and spending time with every single child to help them be their best self!” Coach Whinny coaches Soccer Stars in our preschools and our community programs.
Coach Wes is originally from the Bay Area in California, but mostly grew up in Wichita, Kansas. He enjoys life with his wife, Misty, and their son, Kayden, who is a Soccer Star himself. Wes graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism. While in school, Wes had a strong focus on sports reporting, as he covered the Kanas Jayhawks’ men’s basketball, football, and baseball teams for the student newspaper. He served as the sports editor during his senior year. After graduating, he moved to Dallas, Texas for an internship with MLB.com, to cover the Texas Rangers for the 2018 season. Wes coaches Soccer Stars year-round in our preschools and is excited to add community programs this spring!
Coach Blaine was born in Greenville, South Carolina, where he played baseball for 15 years. Coach Blaine graduated from Hillcrest High School in 2023, and currently resides in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. He is currently attending Greenville Technical College, pursuing a career in law enforcement. Coach Blaine found Soccer Stars because of his love for all sports and children! He previously worked with Spike's After School, caring for youth daily! Coach Blaine is exited to join the team and can't wait to witness kids learn and develop skills that will help them to grow as athletes. He feels passionate about helping children find success in sport and welcomed the opportunity to play a role in that.
Coach Sydney is a Greenville native. She grew up with two older brothers, so all kinds of sports were a constant part of her childhood. She played soccer all her life and still enjoys coaching today. Coach Sydney is currently a student at Anderson University, where she is studying Kinesiology. Through her time at Anderson, she has realized that she not only has a love for sports and fitness, but is also very passionate about nutrition and total health! Due to Coach Sydney's love for soccer and her extensive history as a Personal Nanny, she felt that Soccer Stars would be a great fit. She joined our team in January of 2025 and coaches Soccer Stars in our preschools and for our community programs!
Originally hailing from Arizona, Denise has called many places “home” due to her military travels. South Carolina was never on her radar, but when she landed, she fell in love with the upstate. After learning what Soccer Stars offered, Denise wanted to be involved with a program that combined her favorite endeavors: educating children and promoting sports, fitness, and fun! She brings years of experience working with kids within Sunday School settings, and twelve years as a licensed massage therapist, offering information on muscle movement and function. Denise has worn many hats, but her favorite is Grandma. She and her husband, Rock, are proud military veterans and graduates of Charis Bible College, serving as ministers of the Gospel!
